Skin cancer is very common in New Zealand, making it essential for Kiwi adults to have annual skin checks and understand their risk factors. At Wellspring Medical, our team of professionals provides a suite of tailored skin cancer services.
Head-to-Toe Skin Checks
Our trained dermoscopist will do a thorough examination of your skin. We provide on-the-spot feedback during your consultation. If skin cancer is found, you can discuss the next steps and treatment options during your appointment.
Treatment Options
Cryotherapy
A minimally invasive treatment that uses liquid nitrogen to freeze and destroy cancerous or precancerous cells. It is commonly used for early-stage skin cancers. The procedure involves brief discomfort and may cause temporary redness or blistering as the area heals.
Minor Surgery
Depending on the type and location of the skin cancer this is often the best treatment option. It is done under local anaesthetic, making the procedure painless and allowing you to return home after. All follow-up care (e.g., suture removal, dressings, results discussion) is routinely provided at the clinic.
Chemotherapy Creams
Aldara (Imiquimod) or Efudix (5-fluorouracil) can be used to treat some skin lesions. These creams work by applying medication directly to the affected area, allowing it to penetrate and destroy cancerous cells without harming deeper tissues.

I’m originally from Windsor, Canada, and after traveling the world decided to make Taupō my home. I have dedicated the past 12 years to working as a General Practitioner and healthcare lead within the Taupō–Tūrangi community. In this role, I have focused on strengthening connections within our healthcare community and improving the wellness of patients, whānau, and clinicians.
My additional work interests include overseeing digital standards within Te Whatu Ora (Health NZ) and exploring innovation within primary care. I have completed additional certification in Skin Cancer diagnosis and Surgery through the University of Queensland.
For my own wellness, I spend time with family and friends and enjoy yoga, painting, and rowing.

Originally from Portugal, I have been working as a General Practitioner in New Zealand since 2015. I obtained my medical degree in Lisbon and completed my GP vocational training in the beautiful city of Evora, Portugal. Throughout my medical career, I've developed a deep appreciation for connecting with patients and providing them with the best possible care.
I've developed a keen interest in skin cancer diagnosis and treatment. In 2019 I obtained a graduate certificate in skin cancer medicine through the University of Queensland, and I'm particularly enthusiastic about integrating new technologies to enhance patient care in this field.
Outside of work, I take pleasure in the natural beauty of New Zealand. I can often be found indulging in gardening and learning about native species and habitats. I also enjoy expressing my creativity through painting.
